Bookmarks

How to Create Your Own Bookmark:

Start off with cutting a piece of paper (Card stock or thicker paper works best for this project) 2"x 6", 2"x 7", or 2"x 8", depending on how big you prefer your bookmark to be. You can decorate your bookmark however you would like with flowers, books, shapes, or anything else, and then color it in using pens, markers, pencils, crayons or whatever else you can find.

If you would like, you can also create an opening at the top of the bookmark with a hole punch and then tie a ribbon or string to make it a little fancier!

Bird House Pictures

How to Create Your Own Birdhouse Picture:

Drawing or painting birdhouses is a fun and simple way to practice art. When drawing an image I always find it to be beneficial to have a reference, whether it is an actual birdhouse or just an image you found in a magazine or on the internet. If you decide you would like to paint a birdhouse, I find it helpful to lightly sketch the image on the canvas or paper before you begin painting.

Birch Trees

Materials:

Canvas or Paper

Paint (White, Black, Green Yellow, etc.)

Masking Tape

Paint brushes

Step by Step Instructions:

1. Lay down lines of masking tape vertically across the canvas or paper. (Be sure to have a few overlapping and go slightly to the side). To make thinner or lines that are not as straight, rip or cut the masking tape and then apply it.

2. Paint the entire canvas or paper. This will be the sky. You can paint it all one color, black if you would like it to be a night scene or blue if you would like it to be a day scene. You could also do an ombre effect to make it appear as a sunset or sunrise. (Try not to water the paint too much, watery paint might seep under the tape.)

3. Let the canvas or paper dry.

4. After the paint is dry, carefully remove the masking tape.

5. Lightly dip a paint brush into black or grey paint and then lightly sweep the brush across the trunk of the tree to make the birch tree marks. This works best using a dry brush with a very little amount of  paint.

6. Use white paint to add tree branches at the top of the trees.

7. Take green and yellow paint and paint on a few leaves surrounding the branches.
